Lianne - Theoretical Approach and Philosophy
My theoretical orientation and clinical approach is rooted in a client-centered, strengths-based framework, integrated with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques and informed by principles of positive psychology. This approach is further enriched by an existential and humanistic lens, emphasizing the inherent resilience of individuals and their capacity to enact positive changes in their own lives and the lives of others. I am committed to empowering clients by recognizing their strengths, fostering self-awareness, and encouraging growth through a collaborative therapeutic process.
Over a decade of experience working with marginalized individuals involved with the justice system has profoundly shaped my practice. I have supported clients navigating complex challenges, including trauma, loss, crisis, addictions, sexual abuse, and violence. Since transitioning to private practice in 2016, I have expanded my work to include psychotherapy with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. My areas of focus encompass mental health, personality disorders, ADHD, anxiety, depression, addictions, anger management, PTSD, abuse, communication and conflict resolution, parenting challenges, and grief. I approach each case from a multicultural and social justice perspective, recognizing the diverse contexts and systemic factors influencing individuals’ experiences.
I believe that mindful presence is a powerful tool for change. By cultivating awareness in the present moment, clients can identify unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to negative emotions and behaviors. Once these thoughts are recognized, they can be managed and restructured into more constructive and positive patterns. This process enables individuals to align their actions with their values and core beliefs, fostering a life lived with intention and authenticity. Through this approach, I strive to support clients in achieving meaningful and sustainable growth, helping them navigate their challenges and reach their fullest potential.
